Desire Paths
Make your Necesse world feel more alive and organically shaped by its inhabitants!
This mod introduces an advanced, multi-stage natural wear-and-tear mechanic to the game. As players, settlers, and mobs walk around, they will naturally trample the terrain, gradually transforming pristine nature into organic dirt, and eventually, permanent gravel roads.
Update 1.1 - The Deep Paths Update!
What’s new in this massive update?
- Multi-Stage Paths: Terrain now degrades in much deeper, realistic stages (e.g., Overgrown âž” Grass âž” Trampled Grass âž” Dirt âž” Gravel).
- Brand New Tiles: Added 9 new custom tiles including Trampled Grass (for all biomes), Trampled Snow, Trampled Sand, Snowy/Desert Dirt, and Snowy/Desert Gravel!
- Buildable Paths: All trampled tiles are now registered as items! You can gather them and manually build your own rustic paths or gardens.
- Permanent Gravel Toggle: Added a new setting to
DesirePathsSettings.cfgthat allows you to disable the final “Gravel” stage if you want all your paths to eventually overgrow and heal. - AFK Fix: Fixed an issue where standing completely still would continue to trample the ground beneath you.
Pro Tip for Builders: This mod is a fantastic tool for planning your settlement layout! Let your villagers walk around, observe where they naturally travel, and use those organic desire paths as a perfect blueprint for placing permanent stone or brick roads.
Features
- Deep, Multi-Stage Paths: Terrain degrades in realistic stages depending on foot traffic! This complete ecosystem works across Forest, Swamp, Plains, Snow, and Desert biomes!
- Permanent Gravel Roads: If a path gets heavily used, it eventually turns into hard, permanent gravel (or snowy/desert gravel) that nature can no longer reclaim.
- Nature Heals: Worn paths aren’t entirely permanent (until they hit the gravel stage). If left undisturbed, trampled tiles and dirt will slowly regenerate and overgrow over time.
- Weight System: Not everyone tramples equally! Bosses and players riding heavy mounts will destroy terrain much faster than a small farm animal or a regular NPC.
- Buildable Tiles: All new trampled tiles are fully integrated into the game. You can gather them, hold them in your inventory, and manually build with them to design perfect rustic gardens or muddy trails.
- Safe Vegetation Clearing: The trampling mechanic precisely crushes wild grass, swampgrass, and snowpiles, but it is surgically coded to ignore your farm crops, saplings, and decorative bushes.
Configuration
Upon first launching the game with the mod, a settings file is automatically created inside %APPDATA%\Necesse\cfg\mods. You can fully customize your experience:
- Specific trample chances for Players, NPCs, Mounts, Bosses, and Animals.
- Speed of nature’s regrowth.
- Toggle on/off the permanent Gravel paths.
Compatibility
This mod is safe to add to existing worlds. Fully compatible with multiplayer servers.
How to Safely Uninstall
Because this mod adds brand new custom tiles to the game, removing it without cleaning up first will cause the game engine to replace all your trampled paths with water! To prevent this, please follow these simple steps before unsubscribing:
- Load your world with the mod still enabled.
- Stand near your settlement or wherever you have the most paths.
- Type
/removedesirepaths 250(or any radius you need) in the chat. - The mod will instantly convert all custom paths around you back to safe, vanilla blocks. It will also pause the mod for the rest of your session so no new paths can form while you walk away.
- Save and quit to the main menu. You can now safely disable or uninstall the mod!
